SHEREE CLAY

My Vision Journey

Sheree experienced double retinal detachments and underwent major surgery to reattach one of her retinas. Today, she has vision in that eye, with her usable vision varying from day to day.December 2026 will mark five years since she experienced significant vision loss. She remembers waking up one day and realizing that she could no longer see well enough to perform the duties of her job. From that moment forward, her life changed in ways she could never have anticipated.

Learning to Live Differently

For Sheree, one of the greatest challenges has been learning to navigate life differently while continuing to prove—to others and sometimes to herself—that she is still capable of doing the things she did before vision loss. With the exception of driving, she believes she can still do just about anything she did before. She may simply have to do it differently.Mobility and independence have been some of her biggest adjustments. As someone who experienced vision loss later in life, Sheree describes the experience as having to relearn how to navigate a world she had already learned to navigate one way.

“I’ve had to adapt my life to the person I am today without losing the person I’ve always been.”

One of Sheree’s greatest accomplishments has been becoming an entrepreneur and creating Cloudi Vision Tees. She turned an experience that completely changed her life into an opportunity to advocate, create, and bring greater awareness and representation to the blind and visually impaired community. What she is most proud of is that vision loss did not take away her ambition. Instead, it gave that ambition a different purpose. Sheree is working toward launching a transportation company designed around the needs, independence, safety, and accessibility of blind and visually impaired individuals. Her goal is to create greater transportation options and independence for VIPs in communities across the country.

Sheree wants people to understand that vision loss doesn’t mean life loss. Blindness is a spectrum, and being blind or visually impaired does not automatically mean seeing absolutely nothing. Each person’s experience with vision loss can look different. Most importantly, vision loss does not mean losing your ability, dreams, independence, or purpose. People who are blind or visually impaired can work, travel, run businesses, raise families, fall in love, have fun, and accomplish incredible things. Sometimes things simply have to be done differently.

“My vision changed. My possibilities didn’t.”
