Annalee Bowen Smith

Where It All Began

Born in Bridgetown, Barbados, West Indies, Annalee Bowen Smith embarked on a transformative journey that brought her to the United States of America in 1989. Settling in Long Island’s Uniondale district, she pursued her education at Hempstead High School, eventually graduating and advancing her studies.

Pursuit of Education and Challenges

Driven by determination, Annalee attended Long Island University in Brooklyn, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy, with a remarkable GPA of 3.7. However, her path took an unexpected turn as she faced visual impairment while in college. This stopped her from pursuing a job right away in her field, but despite the challenge, Annalee’s spirit remained unwavering.

Empowerment through Employment

Soon Annalee was receiving services through an agency for rehabilitation, Helen Keller Services for the Blind. Within a year, she gained employment as a Production Assistant in the Braille Library. Her role empowered her to edit and produce Braille and large print books, catering to the educational needs of blind and visually impaired students.

Personal Life and Endeavours

At age 27, Annalee found love and got married two years later. Beyond her career, she ventured into Multi-Level Marketing (MLM), achieving notable success and displaying her resolute mindset. Passionate about party planning and decorating, Annalee and her family adorned church functions, parties, Banquet halls, and other functions with her creative touch. Her pursuit of fashion, coupled with her love for shopping, is what got her into modelling, and reflects her independent and confident nature.

Inspiration and Advocacy

Annalee’s journey isn’t confined by her visual impairment; it’s defined by her determination to inspire and uplift others. As an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Hempstead, she consistently contributes to her community and supports various charities. Through her accomplishments, Annalee stands as a beacon of empowerment for individuals with disabilities, proving that there are no limitations to what one can achieve.

In her unwavering pursuit of success and her commitment to encouraging others, Annalee Bowen Smith exemplifies the essence of the Not My Eyes mission.
